Truth or Consequences Road Sign

What a name for a town, eh?! Before the residents of this sleepy little New Mexican town voted to change the name in 1950, T or C as the locals call it was simply known as Hot Springs, and there’s a good reason for that- this place is loaded with geothermal pools making it a paradise for those seeking solitude and a soak in the desert.

Thanks to all the natural springs in the area, there are tons of options to choose from to take a dip, 10 to be exact.

Whenever we get someplace new we always make a point of asking the locals for tips, and a soak at Riverbend Hot Springs & Spa kept coming up over and over again.

River Bend Hot Springs New Mexico

Riverbend is the only open-air springs located directly on the banks of the Rio Grande River. Soaks are 50 minutes long and visitors can choose from a soak in the public pool ($12 per person, free for guests staying at the property) or a private soak ($15 per person).

Hot Spring Soaking New Mexico

We opted for an evening soak and booked a private pool, and this might just be the best $30 we have ever spent. We booked a late evening soak, a soft enchanting light display lights up the trees across the river, while the Rio Grande rolls along across the desert landscape-sky above you, warm water all around you it’s impossible not leave here entirely enchanted and relaxed. You’ll never want to leave.

Other Things To Check Out In Town:

Truth or Consequences Brewery

The only brewery in town we stopped in to get a bit of work done on their Wifi and sip some local suds. This little watering hole not only serves up tasty beer, but draws in locals and visitors alike with their super relaxed atmosphere and chilled out vibes. Nice people, great beer!

Elephant Butte Lake State Park

New Mexico’s largest State Park, is the perfect spot for fishing and boating enthusiasts! We would have loved to wet our paddles here if the weather hadn’t been so windy during our visit. We both found ourselves wishing we had known about this park before arriving in town, the RV sites here looked fantastic offering full hook-ups for only $14 and fantastic water views.

Geronimo Springs Museum

We didn’t have time to personally check out this museum but heard from others that it was well worth a visit. Pro- tip if you pay the $5 for a day pass to Elephant Butte State Park the map you get comes with a coupon for free family admission into the museum!

Day Trips From Truth or Consequences:

T or C is a fantastic location to basecamp out of while exploring this region. There are a lot of great day trips to be had but our favorite by far is a trip out to Lake Valley Ghost Town. All the info on this little gem of a stop is coming your way in next week’s video!

This was our first ever hot spring soak, and it will not be our last, that’s for certain! Do you have a favorite hot spring? Got a pro tip on the best springs out there? Let us know!
