Puerto Rico: The Best Places To Stay

image

*Confession: This is a long overdue post- but nearly 6 months later we’re still reliving our stays at these incredible hotels, inns and guest houses, so thats counts for something right?!

When we travel, booking a place to lay our heads can sometimes be the most stressful part of the whole planning process.  If you want to know more about how we plan- wander on over to our post on how we plan, and be sure to check out our 7 day Itinerary for the perfect Puerto Rican Vacation!

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that I’m pretty certain, we’ve all had these moments. Book the perfect hotel – “oooooooooh, look at that pool” followed by reality at arrival- “ewwwwwewwewwww, look at that pool, don’t touch that!”

Luckily, all 3 of our lodging choices for trip our to Puerto Rico were not at all the way the pictures described them, they were way, way better! We had so many amazing moments on this wonderful island and the incredible places we stayed, just made the whole experience that much sweeter. If you’re planning a trip to paradise anytime soon, look no further! We’ve got a list of the only 3 places you’ll need to stay while on island time!

Best for a budget in the jungle: El Escondido Guest House

imageParadise found- El Escondido Guest House

Only 30 minutes outside of the city of Old San Juan but miles and miles and miles away. I don’t even know where to begin, other than to say that if you don’t book a room here you’ll be sorry. Nestled on the edge of the rainforest, you fall asleep nightly to the sounds of singing Coqui frogs, and rain dripping through the forest canopy. You will feel like a Lost Boy in Neverland. For only $90 a night including breakfast this 5 room guest house is one of a kind. The downside is you are about 45 minutes from the beaches on the East side of the island, but if you are willing to drive a short distance this is your place. We loved it so much I was convinced that when it was time to leave we were going to be reenacting one of those silly bookings.com commercials… DJ was going to have to pry me out of there against my will, for sure.

Surf-town charmer: The Blue Boy Inn

Rincon PR is AMAZING. If we ever decide to become ex-patriated island dwellers this town would seriously be in the running as a top contender. For proprietors Karen and Wes, that dream became a reality when they purchased the Blue Boy Inn.  I rarely make promises but I can promise you this- you’ll be hard pressed to find two nicer people in the whole Caribbean! They will make you feel right at home with all the amenities of a small scale B&B ( think Nutella waffles for breakfast) and all the luxuries of a 5 star resort! Bonus, Blue Boy Inn is located less than a minute walk to a beautiful beach and located very close to Taino Divers where you can hitch a ride to some of the best diving locales on the West coast of PR.

* Guilty moment: we enjoyed ourselves so much at The Blue Boy Inn, that I completely neglected to snap photos of the property- zip on over to their website for a full set of images of this amazing Inn!

Luxury Living: Hotel El Convento

Sometimes we sleep in tents, sometimes we sleep in our amazing van, and sometimes, sometimes…. we stay at incredible hard to believe they exist places like El Convento in downtown Old San Juan. This amazing hotel was once a convent, that has now been converted into what is arguably to most beautiful hotel in the city. We got super lucky and were treated to a stay in their Pablo Casals Suite, with sweeping views over the city, complimentary wine reception, breakfast vouchers and a private terrace. If you’re looking to treat yourselves- book this hotel now!
